As a teacher trainee at The New Zealand School of Yoga you'll practice, and learn the art of teaching, under the guidance of two of New Zealand's leading exponents in yoga - Sharon and Mike Byron-McKay. Between the two of them Sharon and Mike have over 60 years of accumulative experience. As well as being producers of video 'Practise Yoga' in conjuction with TVNZ, authors of the three books of 'Interactive Yoga Series', and feature writers for 'Yoga and Health' Magazine.
Our training is 'one-to-one' approach, of teacher and 'apprentice', ensuring that you'll gain effective progress in the practice of yoga asanas, meditation - pranayama; whilst learning the necessary skills that are expected of a competent yoga instructor.
Over the period of one year, the yoga teacher's training course is designed to give you 100 hours yoga teaching experience combined with a further 200 hours tutored personal yoga practice time. This is practical knowledge with practical training.
Teacher skills, and teacher training, requires you to be present at a pre-set time, at least once a week in an adjusting /assistant teaching capacity.
You will be required to be present at supervised practice sessions with your instructor for the minimum of twice per week. Training teachers are encouraged to practice as often as possible and unlimited access is given to the yoga school.
On completion of the course, all students who can clearly demonstrate the required level of competence, will be awarded the New Zealand School of Yoga Teacher Certificate.
